Made in Santa Fe

October 14, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

MADE IN SANTA FE will showcase art and objects created at the non-profit community workspace, MAKE Santa Fe, by local artists, makers and innovators. MAKE is a place where people can access tools, resources and workshops to make, repair, invent or create anything they can dream.

The opening reception will demonstrate the variety of projects, technologies and innovations created by this diverse group of Santa Fe creators, featuring Sally Blakemore, Randy Castillo, Anaid Garcia, Courtney Leonard, Mike Thompson, Andrew Woodard plus a maker’s menagerie of original objects by the maker community. The exhibition will also include a selection of photographs by Kate Russell from a project documenting the creative people working in the Siler District, in their personal work spaces.

Did we mention live drawing robots?

MADE IN SANTA FE was curated by partners of the Siler Yard Arts + Creativity Center. “Siler Yard” is an innovative project combining affordable live/work rental space with shared workshop and community facilities, amplified by on-site economic development support programming. MAKE will be the anchor tenant within the community created by the residents of the Siler Yard, currently in development.

“I was wanting to do a show that brought in an organization that was directly involved in community creative processes,” described Freed, “As the idea germinated, I could not be more thrilled to have all these great entities coming together to present this concept in an exhibition. It’s a true blending of our shared vision in presenting the incredible renaissance that is happening in our town.”

The Siler Yard project has been conceptualized and championed by Creative Santa Fe. “We are thrilled to continue the momentum for this important project, serving two critical needs, affordable housing and workforce training,” says Creative Santa Fe Executive Director Cyndi Conn. “Aligning with MAKE Santa Fe to provide new opportunities for interaction, learning, and creative expression for residents and the broader community is an ideal match.”

MAKE Sante Fe co-founder Zane Fischer says the Siler Rufina area has long been a creative center in Santa Fe–not just among artists and performers, but craftspeople and innovators of all types: “This is the right home for a community makerspace and having the opportunity to work with Offroad and the Siler Yard project team is a real opportunity to demonstrate how our resources can be leveraged by everyone from artisans to auto mechanics,” says Fischer.
